his mower is a durable push reel mower, built for rough use. It has a strong, 1 inch thick tubular frame (compared to the 0.75 inch tubes used in the lower range mowers by American Lawn Mower) and powder coated handle. This model also has strong, cast iron wheels. The extra durability comes at a slight cost in weight.
The 16 inch cutting area is much smaller than other mowers – this means that the mower can be easier to push, but can also take about 40% longer to cut the same yard as a 20 inch mower.

Looking for a new reel mower for cutting bermuda grass that is overseeded with 100% perennial rye. How many blades does this mower have ? What type of height adjustment mechanism is used ? Is a grass catcher available for this mower ?
American Lawn Mower brand made in China. That’s just brilliant.
Actually I contacted the manufacturer. This model, the 1704-16, along with the 704-16, 1404-16, & 404-16 are manufactured in the US. A lot of their mowers however are indeed made in China.
